The Beginning

My husband and I have been together now for 14 years, we have two kids and we very recently moved into a new home. In our 14 years together we have probably moved 10 times at least. I have lost count. Moving to us has become a natural occurrence to the point that we don't keep a lot of sentimental material goods. Our last move was our final move and it was the hardest move we have done. Moving four people was not an easy task and moving into this home was no ordinary move.

With this move we went from a small 1922, three bedroom home to a four bedroom 1892 3000 square foot home. That in itself is rather extraordinary and monumental but the storey that goes with the house is a bit mind blowing.

Twin Oaks, before we purchased it. May 2015.

Twin Oaks was originally designed and built by Ronald McRae in 1892, my husbands great, great grandfather. The McRae family continued to own and live in the home until 1999 when it was decided to sell the home as no one at the time was able to take care of such a home.

16 years passed and during 14 of them, my husband and I would drive by the house ever so often and dream of purchasing the house and bringing it back to its glory.

Two weeks ago we were able to finalize our purchase and move in. It has been an amazing two weeks and we can't stop taking moments and revel in what has happened and the home that we own.

It is going to be a long journey with many projects ahead of us. We have already begun some garden work outside and discussed what projects need to be first but it is going to be a very long journey.
